    Bmw 428I Temperature

Just purchased an Alpine White 428I, this is the first Bmw I am owning and I have quite a few questions about it.
I normally start up my old car in the mornings and let it run for about 10 minutes before driving(old car). I would wait for the temperature to rise. However no matter how long I wait trying to "heat" up the car it would never heat up until I actually start driving. It would stay at 160 and not move. Now I am just worried if the car will face any problems in the future if I continue driving without seeing if there is a issue.
Is this common in 4 series or most Bmw's where the temperature gauge only increases when you start driving rather in "idle" trying to heat up the car.

First, the gauge you see is an oil temperature gauge. It will not rise as quickly as a coolant temperature gauge.

Second, it is very bad to idle an engine for that long for a warmup. Turn it on, let it run for half a minute at most to get oil pressure up, and drive gently at least until oil temp gauge is moving up.
Old carbureted cars needed warmups because they weren't great at adjusting for temperatures, idling for warming up the car promotes more wear.

Start the engine, put on your seatbelt, idle for just a few minutes, drive off slowly.
