    I would differently be all over the Sonoma races as I live 15 minutes from there in Novato. However, I will only do dog races from a 30 mph start. BMW's, unless built for standing still races, are not usually made for this type of drag races. But, who know, I will have to make some tough decisions. Hope to see a fellow BFC member there.

    Thanks, I went with Ground Control, and it looks like about 2 weeks I will be picking her up. Also have been putting in a lot of time on my new (used) 700 hp Porsche 996 TT Evosport GT700. Now doing a full custom JL Audio stereo with 13" shallow sub. Bose sucks big time

    We partially tuned it last year before we had the issues with the motor.

    We just put it back on it’s own suspension today, and on the dyno.

    Went through a set of plugs and the usual troubleshooting until we got it running nice again. Needed a bunch of retuning. We also previously cleaned up the harness and some wires didn’t get reconnected which caused a fuss today.

    We got all the part throttle dialed back in up-to 100kpa and started into boost. Coolant line from the previous builder started to leak and so we got to do a coolant flush on the dyno.

    Then it wasn’t making really any boost until redline, so we pressure tested It.. leaks all over. pulled the charge-pipes and throttle off.. resealed the tb to (the not so flat) inlet flange. Fixed everything up and Left it all to dry. Probably another set of steadystate to make up for the leaks..

    Steady state upto 100kpa was showing like 275whp, and with a just a little boost we’re like double that, timing peak around 15* in boost, lots on the table. We didn’t really run it above 6000 either.

    Hoping to wrap it up tomorrow, but you know how that goes.

    Thanks, much appreciated, but I will try the KW Variant 2's and have a local tech install and dial in the suspension. This way I can easily change things if needed. And, I can sell my Dinan/Koni set-up. This, my new to me 996 TT, and selling my house to move to Bend, OR. or Baja. I have a fun, full plate for sure.

    Got the car dialed in yesterday under boost, 7 / 10 / 14 /18 psi settings.

    We're working with low octane ratings here, and since the engine builder is unable to provide the specifications on the pistons we are a bit hesitant to go above 18psi.

    We did a compression test the other day, and compression figures were very high. Close to what we see out of a healthy s52 at this altitude. So while we trust the motor was built for boost, we are hesitant to push too hard.

    Additionally, the alternator runs 19V above 3000rpm.

    Just wrapped it up.

    After talking with the engine builders today for quite some time. We settled on a final boost figure of 17psi (215kpa target) for 91 octane fuel.


    Jim came to us asking for genuine 600whp car, we were shooting for 700whp on pump. We are all really happy the car is sorted, making good power (Even if it is 4% less than we were hoping for).

    Dyno videos to follow.

    A FINAL NOTE! For final power figures we run inertia tests, and this is a low inertia dyno. These dyno pulls are only 3 seconds long, the spool looks slow on these pulls but during loaded tuning/testing we are seeing full boost down by 4500. We expect full boost on the street to be around 4250. Redline of 7200.
