I have to confess, I am really curious, are you not able to get Zack on the phone, text, or email? I'm not meaning to chastise, I'm just really curious.
Zack, please check pm, thanks.

Am I seeing things correctly? Does the compressor charge pipe go directly to the TB?
No intercooler? Or did I miss something?
Cool build though and very nice fab skillz Zack

That’s pretty slick.
So is there a heat exchanger in there ?
Can something similar be done on an M50 manifold?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
RMS made the heat exchangers for this engine as well as for the m/s5x engines and the S54 for their supercharger kits. They do well with their kit hardware but the software was never great.
We’re just getting back from the dyno. Nothing went as planned.
But... with a project of this magnitude any time It drives on and off the dyno on its own power that’s a win. Hah.
Car made amazing boost. 10psi is available from 3000rpm, and 28 psi from less than l 4500 hah.
Lots of problems were sorted out in the last couple days. Spent 6 hours on the dyno today and burnt a whole tank of gas.
Car runs well and sounds amazing, we will be back to the dyno for a final WOT tuning shortly.
Unfortunately, everything leaks oil. In the <10 mile drive to the dyno everything got lubricated. And the worst part is the timing cover doesn’t look like it’s sealed.
That’s all the update you guys get tonight! We are completely beat.

No numbers at all? 28psi at 4500 must have made cummins-esque torque at the very least.
Who built the motor?
Rebello started the motor build but the final assembly was done by a second or third hand down the line before us.
You don’t really run the dyno until wot numbers.
Remember this is a completely custom motor, custom standalone install, and has been through a lot of hands. We took our time and made sure everything was checked twice.
For example, We had a hard cut at 4500. With a custom crank damper, custom crank pickup location, custom wiring harness, and etc. you have to troubleshoot 5 variables before you can be sure of anything.
Anyway, we did a handful of logged runs on the dyno, each finding various problems. They showed 350wtq around 3500. This was all with 8* of timing in boost.
We were trying to clear the plugs on the pull it hit 28psi. I went wot at 3600 or so and it hit overboost protection. Only checking the logs did we see how far it went.
We’re going to have to pull the gate off and check the diaphragm. Looks like it might have been DOA.

To all those following this thread and your support, Zack and I thank-you. I talked with the engine builder and Zack, and all will be sorted out. The translation was lost between engine builder and install, 2 different shops due to cancer of a tech. Zack is happy with the dyno results thus far, and that is good enough for me.

Nice to see progress! Is your shop by Carb Conn? I used to live by 132nd squared park up the hill.

No I just met the guys there and we get along pretty good.
---
Been slammed lately but wanted to make an update of what were planning.
I went and spent time with the car yesterday. It’s about a 45 minute drive back to the shop, so I started it and let it idle warm while tuning the warmup settings, I went for a couple small drives checking fluids and the general.
I am really happy with the progress the tune is making, but it is still losing fluids everywhere it can, not that we expected much different. I decided against driving it back to the shop due to the distance and propensity for traffic.
I’ll get back over there with a trailer.
I have put together a plan in my head as to how we will get this guy sorted along with some improvements along the way.
- Replace front timing cover gaskets and seal
- Replace Valve cover gaskets
- Re-torque (or Check?) head studs
- Add CCV System
- Weld threaded bosses to each valve cover
- Baffle the valve cover below bosses
- -10 or 12 AN lines coming off of each valve cover to Custom Vented Catch Can
- Fresh powder-coat
- Remove Inlet manifold and runners
- Powder-coat the light grey runners these to match the exhaust.
- Replace leaky Coolant line off the back of the head
- Replace wastegate
Why the CCV Add-on?
I am hoping by venting the motor more with the upgraded CCV system we can help keep pressure behind the gaskets down and keep the oil in the motor. The motor currently has one CCV vent off of the timing cover, we will keep this but add two additional lines. We will use matching red/black lines to what you currently have.
There are only so many places this motor can leak, hopefully this gets us there.

Interested to see how the upgraded CCV system goes. I’m running 15psi in my m60b40 and suspect the factory vent to a catch can is not enough. The m60 can be leaky and the weak point with mine seems to be the oil filler cap.

Thanks Zack for info. I talked to Rebello and he said he will help in any way he can. I gave you a system based around a s/c and I know it is not easy to convert all the seals and what-not for turbo system, but it looks like you are working your tail off to fix that. Dave said to please call him. Thanks!

Just recently on a trackday the CCV system issue (on a 14psi centrifugal blower on m60b40) gave me grief and forced sinificant oil out the discharge pipe of the catch can. Hasn’t really been a major issue on then street but the track is a different story as u are on boost quite often.
I’m only using the factory vaccum source into an open catch can discharging to atmosphere. I can’t draw it to the low pressure intake due to a blow through MAF. I’m looking at using a vaccum pump. Researching whether electric or belt driven. Apparently there is also additional HP with running under vaccum, as well as less pressure on the leaky m60’s seals.

Just a quick update: Zack fixed the leaks with new gaskets and told me the 540i is scary fast with a butt dyne of 700+ rewhip. This obviously is just a guess-tament. We will now work on a new suspension. Looking at Ground Control, KW and Bilstein coilovers. I want the suspension to keep up with the new power.
