I finally got back to my computer today so I could take a close look at the graphs. And wow, for 91 octane, those numbers are excellent!! I would really love to see what you could get out of it on E85, because now that E85 is a thing, boosted life on 91 octane is bad. Lol.. Did you say why you didn't set it up on E85? If so I missed it.
And other than that, all I can say is that if the boost actually comes in before 5k as projected on the street, it's going to be a fantastic thing that this is an M60 based build, with it's larger diameter clutch surface (than what is possible on the M62). That torque is going to be brutal on the clutch! Love it.
Agreed, we are really happy with how it turned out.
We originally talked about e85 being a possibility for high boost, but after we got more involved with the car and a deeper understanding of Jim’s goals we really couldn’t justify pushing it any harder.
As of now it’s making huge power on pump gas, it’s exceeds the build expectation, it’s simple and it’s reliable. Plus it gets back in Jim’s hands sooner.

We do get a little spoiled in this part of the country, where it makes zero sense to run a turbo build on anything but E85. But when I drove out west, I started understanding how difficult it can be to even find gas as "good" as 91, so I do get it. Especially when you can make the kind of power you got out of 91. Having the tune only require 91 octane would be a fairly huge convenience factor out there.
Unfortunately E85 isnt as common on the West Coast like you said. Too bad it never seemed to pop up out here.
91 is about all you can reliably get so its a great choice to tune to!
Yeah, without getting into any of the other aspects of E85 (political or economic stuff), it is one of the biggest boons for the performance car industry since the turbocharger. Such an impressive safety net for a forced induction engine, and yes, big shame it isn't everywhere for those of us who love to play with cars.
With that said, I'll reiterate how impressed I am with this level of power on a 91 tune, especially with the A2W intercooler not cooled by an ice bath. I'm sure the non-factory cams help out a lot, but still, very impressed.

Yeah, hopefully it will be, and I would expect it will be good. If it was made for the smaller diameter of the M62 clutch friction surface though.... Then not so much confidence! M60 platform holds many advantages for bewsties.
If anybody hs any recommendations on a reliable, honest (as much as possible ) reasonably priced auto carrier from Washington to 94949, please let me know asap. Thanks!

Jim, That’s about average for a running car for that distance. Maybe 10% high.

So guys I took the car for about a 30 minute trip today. Fine tuning some drivability, hot start and idle. I got the closed Loop idle dialed in and it’s rock solid.. that always a good feeling.
I had the car down at spring pressure (7psi) and were seeing full boost by about 4000 just looking at the fuel trim logs.
7 psi is enough to blow the tires off... which is scary as heck with the suspension package that’s on it.
There’s a throttle position where the turbo overcomes the blow off valve and you can keep the “wooosh” open as long as you want.. which is hilarious.
On the way back to the shop a valvecover bolt/seal worked loose and oil dripped onto the exhaust scaring the heck out of me
Really a fun car. I’d love to put about 300 miles on it and make sure there are no more surprises like the bolt above. I don’t think many will realize how custom this car is.. very few parts are factory..

Great that it’s coming together. Excellent that the m60/2 platform gets the loving it deserves. Projects like this never seem to end. Chassis is always something that needs to be considered with power like 700rwhp+. My e34 is approaching 500rwhp and it’s pretty drivable with a tight lsd, upgraded bushes and some pretty sticky Yokohama AD08R tyres. On the worn pilot supersports it was a handful especially trying to manage acceleration under corner exists. I see u run 7psi spring on the wastegate. That’s about what I run in mine with a 3 port solenoid for an in cabin 7psi/16psi switch.

Congrats to jimmyz66 on this one of the greatest e34 build.
I remember 4 or 5 years ago I saw his supercharged e34 pictures and I was setting it as a goal to reach. I only had 530i becoming 540 back than. now thanks to jimmy and 22rpd even crazier stuff is available.
Great work guys!
Good job Gents. I thought you never finalize it. Thanks God i was wrong. I have m62 oem exhaust and modified it for turbo. After 7psi have no gain in power up to 13psi. What should be minimum exhaust manifolds diameter for m62 turbo for 15psi? Turbo is hx40, injectors 630cc. Thanks in advance.

bmwgruzin, thanks, much appreciated.
Czechmate, you are more than welcome to come over to Marin. I am not into 1/4 mile from dead stop. More into 1/2 mile runs from a 30 mph roll or so. Easier on my trans.
doviet, I would call Zack at 22RPD.
Well hopefully tomorrow I will finally get to test the big boy out. I had a problem with low voltage to the engine due to my new new Hi Tech stereo install. Realced the battery terminals and wiring ( the low voltage was fouling up my plugs within seconds).Got that fixed and ordered new NGK Race plugs. I will then take my 540i/6 to Sonoma Raceway to have Tim Barber install a new suspension set-up to kill the mean rear squat I get now with my old Dinan set-up. In the mean time I am having fun with my Porsche 996TT Evomotorports GT700-soon to be 800 hp. It literally takes seconds to get to 150 mph (in Mexico of course ) But, I just love the "psssst" sound off boost of the turbo in my 540i/6. Awesome!

Just an FYI, this is not necessarily true at all. You can drive off the line like you would from a stop light, and get a solid quarter mile TRAP SPEED for your car. Trap speed is really the measure of how fast the car accelerates.
Elapsed time is what depends on launching like a drag car, since it is highly dependent on what happens in the first 60ft. So for cars like ours, there is no reason to bother with it. Just come off the line like you would in an enthusiastic start on the street, and then let 'er rip. MUCH fun to be had that way, without putting undue stress on the driveline.
tptrn- thanks for your reply, but I respectfully disagree. Continuous hard launches in 1st gear over time will indeed but undue stress and wear on clutch and trans. If PDK with launch control, ok fine.

There really doesn't have to be any extra wear on the clutch at all, but suit yourself.
What he is saying is just do a no power leave and roll into it half way through 1st gear. Ignore the time on the slip and just race for trap speed.
