Yeah with where the m60 sits the 3.5” was really tight.

We rerouted all the wires and did everything we could.

Remember even the starter is over there on the m6x.

But is there going to be that much of a difference? 4" all the way sounds pretty good for an exhaust system. Also for those of you reading this thread, thanks and maybe someone who knows how a poll on what color to powder coat the piping, leave it or change to say shiny silver or perhaps black? Much appreciated.

Not that my opinion matters, but I think it looks just fine as is.

If you want to change color a bright silver would be best imo. The black can look funny if it does not match the couplers so its best to do something contrasting.

White would be interesting with the red IC and other accents, or motorsport bronze. 90s DTM style.

I always like the stealth, stockish, look of semi gloss black but it will absorb radiant heat from around it more so than if it was polished metal. It’s nice to see someone turbo one of these. Many have tried and failed over the years.

Believe me, when I get it, it will be tops on my list of things to do. I am getting the bright silver itch.

I would leave the piping as is, the gray looks great. Bright silver would look cheesy IMO.

Cranked right up... after 10 hours!

The bad news: the rear crank seal (main seal) is leaking a quart every 10 seconds. Maybe it wasn't even installed by the previous shop, I have never seen one leak so much.

    We are going to bed!

Clean looking fab work. Sucks about the rear main seal. A bit of a gut punch after all that work. Is there an IAT sensor in the manifold after the intercooler to see how effective that mani is? In for some graphs and charts to see what this will do.

I respect the members here who can wrench, fabricate, and or tune themselves. But for the other members like me who have two left thumbs when it comes to building our own aftermarket BMW's, shops like Zack at 22RBD Tuning are a real blessing. And I have experienced hand several times lies, incompetence and just plain BS from shady shops that when you first talk to them, they are your new best friend, best man at your wedding, and marry your sister and buys her a new house in Bel Air and or in the Hamptons. And once they get paid they give you more excuses than OJ Simpson.

Hey Zack, left a message on your shop phone regarding suspension, tire/wheel width, oil cooling and the custom strut braces we talked about. Please get in contact when you can, thanks.

After everything was done, except tuning and color of pipes, the engine builder did not install rear main seal, so another costly setback. I should change my middle name to "costly setback". At least this still cost me less than my brother's divorce (I'm getting close though).

Why was it a costly setback? Installing one isn't much more than a clutch job. Did you get one installed now so it's all good?

This, the person installing the clutch should have caught it.

True dat. Turbo Hoses did the install and I pulled my car out of that shop when I found out after Hoover (yes his real name because he vacuums money out of his customers) the shop owner promised me he could tune the car. He emails me a month later after the engine install, and no mention of the rear main seal, to inform me he cannot tune the car. I found out he was going to use the Miller Performance kit! I was led to believe at first that Turbo Hoses could themselves tune my 540i. He than told me he could install a standalone for $15K or so. I also went over the invoice to discover he charged me $60 for a phone call to Miller Performance and $50 to line up all the bolts to see if any were missing. I contested my cc charges which TurboHoses did not respond to, and won $1000 for fraud and just plain theft due to false over charges. My car sat a year while I tried to locate a respected tuner with no luck until I met Zack here. I also had to sue and won $2300 in court from another "tuner" who first inspected my car after the RMS debacle, but that is another story.

We had a huge event for bmw last week that we thought was going to get cancelled due to the weather, but last minute came together. Following that we finally had a chance to get to the rear main seal.

    IMG_2303.jpg

We uncovered quite a few installer errors with the clutch, trans, rear main seal, and general bolt torquing... what a mess..

We replaced the rear main and cleaned up the oil and called it a day.

It took way longer than planned so we’re going to finish it up first thing in the morning.

First of all, thanks again Zack. I am sorry I brang a "fixer-upper" car unwillingly to you. My first thoughts were thinking if it is too late to take that incompetent shop Turbo Hoses and its equally incompetent owner Hoover, to court. It just keeps me amazed and dazed as to the shitty work some of these shops perform, and some had decent reputations. I keep 2nd guessing myself to see if I am to blame for any of this, besides picking the shop. I do not nickel and dime them, I do not talk down to them, nor 2nd guess their work as it is performed. It started with Schatz&Krum in Sacramento, Works Motorsports at Sonoma Raceway, RMS (ok, ok) and now Turbo Hoses who did the last engine/clutch/tranny install (and they have a good rep for Noble cars). And not to forget my RK Tunes tune that after 600 miles my engine let go. Go figure because I can't.
