I hear you. This is why I've got a race S38B38 in my 633CSi, a 6 speed E39 M5 gearbox and the E34 M5 large case 3.73 LSD. I thought about the 645 route but getting the engine to work with RHD is a little more complicated, then an S38B38 came up for sale and the rest is history..... not always fun history......... some quite painful........... but in the end it should be a sub 5 second rocket that puts most modern hot hatches to shame.
Unlike you I cannot turn up the boost so what we get is what we get. You may still end up with a 700hp monster.
Looking forward to the next instalment.

If I had a chance to get S38B38 I would've surely went with it. But I am a turbo aficionado, so everything goes according to the plan.
Painted some parts yesterday. Found this KBS coatings XTC paint that after baking to 350F is heat resistant up to 1500F. The customer reviews say good product, I hope it will last. I hate rusty turbos and exhaust manifolds.
I like what you guys are doing, and I also like turbo's. Are you putting an angled intercooler behind the valance?
How are you going to bake them to 350 F?

Josh When small enough, the kitchen oven works well. I won't tell you what comes of that!!

Close enough. I've done that before and it did m ake for not happy me and really unhappy wife for a while. I am smarter these days.
Cooked the lunch today:
Overcooked the second batch a bit and the valve cover turned darker than the rest. Will re-do it next week along with other small parts.
Excellent use of your outdoor oven!

I approve of your BBQ'ing techniques. How long do you hold the 350F for?

Some more progress this week. Trying to not work with customers coming in and out, more time for our projects.
After 1 gallon of diesel, 1 gallon degreeser and half gallon gasoline for the pressure washer here is how it looks now. It's not perfect, but close enough. Looks like these oil leaks help preserve what's important
E39 M5 wheels that we had laying around fit perfectly. Will probably need some spacers. Will be tough decision between these and 18" Alpina that I have.
Just read through, this will be awesome. Good work so far! I'd say go for the 18" Alpinas!!
I'd always choose period correct wheels to compliment the car, that means the size can't be overly large and 18's would be the limit for me. My car will probably use 17's to accommodate a big brake kit, my current 16's are too small for my intended kit.
Are you coating everything with bitumen undercoating?
Great work again!
I think I will stick to the Alpina wheels. I have 17" and 18" sets, so we'll see which one gets to be chosen.
This is all the original undercoating, almost untouched for 33 years.
I have never seen so much grime and slime underneath a car. It took us a decent amount of time and brushing/scrubbing power to clean the undercarriage and especially the wheel wells. On the plus side everything has been conserved to perfection. Looks pretty nice now.
Early christmas for the shark. Or maybe very late one, after sitting for all this years in the dark garage
Big boy's in
Nice work! That paint really looks good, and your pressure wash made the chassis look brand new.
Hard to tell, but how tight is the clearance on that wastegate? Any plans for heat shielding?
Save the manuals!

Thanks. The chassis really looks amazingly preserved and I couldnt find even one rusty spot. Will go over it one more time to get rid of any grime spots left.
The WG is touching the reinforcement bracket that goes along the strut tower. I will have to cut off part of it(the special tool is on the last pic ). I will install a strut brace that will compensate for the little bit of lost strength. I will put some "golden" insulation tape around the turbo and the WG. But actually there are heat shielding plates around the exhaust manifold and the WG. They were all missing and it took me 1 year to find all the pieces plus a few original bolts and nuts that were missing.
This is how it sits without the left motor mount:
