Quarter Window Trim

When I bought the car the quarter window trim was missing and NLA available from BMW. Took it all apart today and the trim that is at the front edge of the drivers rear quarter window was down in the body. Thank goodness for children with small hands

Question is how is this trim held on?

Looking inside the trim there is nothing and the fact that it came off once and what a PIA it was to retrieve it makes me want to put it back on correctly.

It is secured with some 3 small plastic clips inside the channel and some adhesive.

Any Adhesive in particular? I did not seen any residue inside?

Which might be the reason it fell off

I have used 3M Emblem and Weather strip adhesive on various projects with good results.

You can also use Windshield Adhesive (Urethane) I did both of mine and they aren't coming off again.

Good call. Fairly certain this was what was used originally (or close to it), so I second this response. You don't need much.

I will see if the other side comes off easy. Smallest tube I could find was 14OZ and I would imagine you need less than 1 for both sides

I replaced my rotten and dried out fixed quarter window gaskets on my e39 wagon. I went talk to the guys at the local windshield replacement shop before I started the project and the manager said the windshield adhesive you can buy from the parts stores is not nearly as good as what he uses. He offered to glue my gaskets in for me. he said get everything ready for the adhesive and bring the car back. So, I prepped everything on the 1st door and was when it ready to glue it in place, I brought him the car and he ran a bead of his adhesive on my glass. Then I went home did the other side and returned again. I think these pros like do it yourselfers, especially when you are humble and ask for their advice and expertise. They were more than happy to help me out. They even gave me the wire they use to cut through the old adhesive to easily remove the window. I went to a safelight glass shop. See if they are interested in helping you out, you may be surprised. He didn't ask for any money either but I gave him some cash to buy lunch for his shop.
