    Cruise Control Retrofit

I am in process of retro-fitting cruise control to my 1999 840 M62 Right-hand drive. All the hardware is fitted (Actuator; Column switch, control unit in boot). Now it is time to install the wiring loom.

In the middle of the loom are three connectors:
    1) To column switch,
    2) for Clutch (mine has a bypass link as its automatic)
    3) black 6-pin plug-in connects to X76 (special eqpt), below instrument panel.

I cannot find the connector for X76 anywhere!!!

I have the driver's footwell stripped out and have spent hours searching for it. Does anyone know where it is?

Wrong side of the car. The connector you want is under the left front. The instructions assume LHD

And the instruction state that for RHD the instructions are a mirror of LHD. Therefore I would expect the connector to be on the RHS. The wirng loom is not long enough to stretch from the left-footwell to the steering column.

Actually, it says “various work steps must be carried out in mirror image”, not ‘all work steps’. Debating won’t change which side the connection is on.

You can "expect" the connector to be wherever you like - but it will still be in the left footwell, where it is on all cars - even the special ones like yours.
The instructions are actually very clear on this and all other wire routing.

The instructions clearly direct you to run the harness into the left front footwell from inside the left front fender. This puts the harness right by the connector you are seeking and the other branches can reach to the right side for RHD cars. So, it not only has to reach X76 when installed properly, there is no way it cannot.

If it doesn't fit, you routed the rest of it wrong with your expected mirror configuration.
Either way, you may at this point have to graft an extension onto that pigtail to get it to the other side, if you don't want to rip everything out and start again.

just a heads up... Right Hand Drive cars do not get made with special mirror reverse wiring / modules / etc... so when you need to find your General Module, LKM, etc. ... don't insist they be under the steering column on your car, they won't be there. They'll be on the left side like every other E31 that left the factory.

Well, I've stripped out the left side footwell and still cannot find the X76 connector. The ETK shows connector X76 on the link to the EKM. I have checked the EKM and cannot find any "spare" connector. Just hoped someone would have done this job themselves and could point me to it. I've looked under the dash, inside the wing (speaker removed), under the floor carpet and under the sill carpet. Nothing, nadda, zilch! This is really frustrating.

Watching with interest. 6MT vehicles don't come with cruise - at least not in RHD.

I can only repeat what Reinhard said when he retrofitted the CC - the hardest bit was finding X76!

I have cruise in my LHD automatic but had to add the switch to the clutch pedal to disengage the cruise when I converted to manual. The plug for that switch was tie wrapped way up high under the dash. I had to lay on my back with a flash lite with the cover removed and really look hard and move some wiring harnesses around till I found the kill switch plug strapped up there to be out of the way.

What does the 6MT designation mean and how do I find out if my car has this? My friend has a RHD 1998 840 (4.4 M62) and that has cruise fitted as Factory option.
