    Long time no post!

First time in a long time since I have posted and hope to have help. Its a 86 325es and I have narrowed down this old problem. The car runs perfect when it is cold.It has all new hoses and no vacuum leaks. New timing belt and full tune up. Then it warms up and starts to idle funny and hesitates and I hate driving it. Any ideas?
    Thanks

Welcome back! Sounds like you have a vacuum leak.
Check that big elbow hose from the air filter to the throttle body for cracks to start with.
Also, is the oil stick seated properly? Oil cap as well. Any other vacuum lines loose or cracked?

I had a similar problem on M40. When winter everything is ok, but on summer when car long stay on sun, there is bad idle when I start up car. Problem was in EVAP valve. But problem comeback again. Now when engine warm, there is bad idle again. I replace ICV valve which I take from E36 M43 and also, replace two o-ring on oil dipstick and MAF hose. For now, everything is ok.
