Hi gents
new here. Learnt lots from converting my 911 to itbs with megasquirt efi. Thought my next project could be an e24 with a e46 330 engine and 5 speed manual
SO many questions...
is it easy to get a e28 subframe in rear? I'm looking at a e12 based 633 at the moment. The garagistic subframe looks cool. Coil overs I suppose are the way to go. It's a daily so nothing crazy
has anyone done a m54 swap? I have a e90 with a n52 that I also thought would be cool since they can code the ecu to swap into an older chassis.
i suppose a m54 would be easier.
anyway, any replies would be great

Sounds like a great project to me...I've been thinking along the same lines for a while but it's just idle dreaming in my case.
I believe someone over on BigCoupe documented the E28 rear subfame swap without major drama. He does a lot of customizing though.
Your combo is the same one I've been considering. The alu M52B30 is a lot lighter than the M30 and it should more or less just bolt right in. What's your plan for the oil sump? I suspect the trans tunnel might need a bit of work for the 5-speed, but it'll be easier than fitting the bigger 6-speed.
I've been to a few salvage yards here...noted that the E90 front subframe is pretty close in size to the E24 subframe. I know it's a longshot...but if the E24 could maintain the E90 geometry...you'd get that sweet rack & pinion setup basically for free...without having to worry about any of the oil sump, custom motor & trans mounts, etc. Think of the weight you'd save with all that aluminum!

Yeah that's what I was thinking...my 330 is such a great car and that smooth, high revving n52 is so wasted on an auto. Anyone else know how close the e90 suspension could be to the e24? Wouldn't have to worry about subframe clearance I guess if it could fit.
My 633 CSi with the e12 chassis runs the e28 rear subframe. Did this to get better access to LSD's as sideloader LSD's are rare and costly. Not difficult. Swapping to the e28 front subframe is also popular. All engine swaps can be difficult but perseverance will see you with a valuable unique vehicle.
