Howdy,
I noticed my hose from the reservoir to the power steering pump was leaky, so I ordered a Rein replacement.
When I got it, it looked identical to the one I removed, but the bolt would not by any means go in the correct way.
It looks like, to create a good seal, the fitting on the end of the hose allows the bolt to only go in one way by making one end slightly smaller. The bolt gets slightly thicker once it gets past the thread, so this confirmed my theory.
That being said, I've put the hose in a position where it looks to be the only way possible, but the end not the hose ensures that the banjo bolt only goes in from the opposite side. I've rotated the end that connects to the pump around a million different ways and have only found one that doesn't kink the hose severely.
I have not found a rotation that works with the way it wants the bolt to go in. I'm beginning to think Rein used the wrong fitting or welded it incorrectly or something.
If anyone has any pictures of this hose, please send them my way. I'm stumped.

I'd be inclined to agree--I recently did mine and had no problem with a Rein hose. Have you compared it to your old hose?
what is the part number of the Rein based on BMW numbers and what is the original BMW p/n based on your VIN, compare

If I understand correctly the banjo bolt will only fit in one direction, the wrong way, because the hole on one side is too small to accommodate the shoulder of the bolt. Typically the shoulder is equal to the thread diameter so I'm a bit confused.
It's easy enough to ream it out a bit. As long as there is a good flat surface for the seal ring you'll be fine.

If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark Donohue

#11 is from reservoir to the side of the pump
#13 from pump top to steering gear

Unfortunately, I bought the hose, uninstalled the old one, installed (or tried to) the new one then continued my turbo build. I then threw the old one away so I can't do this. I did compare them when it came and they looked identical.

New hose came in and it was identical but allowed the bolt to sit in the fitting in either direction. Not sure what was up with the other one, but my problem is solved!
