I have not found an answer to my question so far forgive me if i missed it in my searching
I have a 2000 BMW x5 with the non navigation dsp radio and buisness cd player. in the back there are extra plugs on the harnesses buy the amp. can i run a nav head unit without needing all the nav parts? just want to use it for the radio as min is pixelated and the repair went bad. i dont need navigation just like the look of the nav unit in the dash.

I think the head unit in BMWs with nav in that era are merely man-machine interfaces. That is, as your X5 does not have nav, the head unit contains a lot of the electronix such as the radio. Swapping in a nav head unit will require the installation of the electronix in the “trunk.” Also, it’ll require a wiring harness swap.
Hi,
No. You can't use the OEM monitor with the setup you have already. You'll need to change the loom in order to be able to fit the BM53 amplifier module, a video module. The CD changer is optional and if you chose to add the Mk4 DVD based navigation module, you'd not need the aforementioned video module as it's capable of driving the monitor directly.
It's been asked many times over all the BMW forums.
Cheers, Dennis!
