Master cylinder from an E32 will also work, and is considerably less than the E31 unit. A few people have purchased the E32 MC for less than $100 (and that’s with a warranty).

Replaced mine with one from an e32, can't tell the difference, fixed the problem and didn't take long. Less than $100 don't recall where I got it.

I did the same after all four wheels kept locking up at the same time. Bought an E32 master cylinder for around $100 from rock auto. Very simple replacement and works great. I cannot tell any difference in pedal pressure or braking performance.
