HI,
I have a 2002 325CI Convertible with a Business CD and CD Changer in the trunk.
My radio says February 21, 2002 and I cannot get the AUX to work so I assume what I have seen about September of 2002 for the business CD being correct.
Can I swap in a 2003 Business CD unit without any hassles so that I can get the AUX feature?
Thank you.
Dan
I guess, with all the replies that everyone already knew that the last 3 digits of the part number are key. For AUX they are 902,903, 505, & 506.
Yes, you can swap the 2002 head unit for a later model. There are some issues though:
- the earlier model has 2 radio frequency (RF) inputs (AM & FM) while the newer model has 1 combined RF input. There’s a cable that combines the 2 RF signals into a single connection.
- the RF antenna amp is located in the drivers side “C” pillar. Earlier models require 12VDC that’s supplied by the head unit. The newer head unit doesn’t provide that power. The solution is to jumper the amp “turn on” signal abs route the wire to the RF amp. I think the amp “turn on” signal wire is cream in color.
Go to E46Fanatics audio section for a complete description of the swap.
