I bought a 2002 330ci a year ago with FSH (although I'm not so sure now) and generally, the car is in very good condition and now is nearly refurbished through replacement parts. Although it will not run when hot as, I get bank 1 & 2 lean codes which lead to the car misfiring and pretty much running in limp mode.
so the car has been used for one trip a year ago and since the same problem persists when the car is hot after around 20mins. hence the lack of use but I have now decided to fix it once and for all.
list of jobs carried out over the last year to try and fix what I thought was a vacuum leak.....? to no avail
top and lower induction boots replaced
vacuum pipes with cracks in
replacement disa valve.
I have even bought a smoke machine and there are no leaks what so ever.
Additional replacements.....
full Vanos refurbishment
valve cover gasket replaced
spark plugs
coils
All 4 O2 sensors replaced (i hate one of the rear o2 sensors)
crank sensor replaced
fuel filter & FPR replaced
MAF
ATF fluid and filter changed
Now after carrying out the smoke machine test today with no leaks, I decided to pressure test the fuel rail which leads me to think the pump is weak.
ignition on no crank ----- 0psi
engine on fuel pressure will eventually reach 32 - 28psi maybe.
I have removed the back seat the wiring harness to the pump is receiving 12v and I can hear the pump run, is it worth replacing?
What should normal fuel pressure be?
Should be about 50psi at idle.
Replace fuel pump with BMW OE or OEM Replacement part:https://www.fcpeuro.com/products?keywords=16146766942
going to pick up both pumps today, as I also remember thinking that the fuel gauge was faulty as it would also play up at just under 1/4 a tank. so that could be the spray pump as well?
the weird thing is it starts fine and runs ok for about 20mins then plays up.
There are 2 tanks and each gas its own level sensor. The gauge cluster averages the levels with the result going to the gas gauge and the OBC miles to readout. The sensor (and the pump) on the drivers side are almost always trouble free. The pump and level sensor on the passenger side are typical wear items. The level sensor is nothing more than an exposed resistive pad over which the fuel level float swipes over. This pad becomes gummy or tarnished over years. Also, the pump is good for about 5000 hours of operation. The float, resistive pad and the pump are sold as a unit. Buy only a Siemens/VDO pump. Try FCPEuro for a great price. Also, replace the fuel filter as it has the integrated fuel pressure regulator. Buy a Mahle or Keyser filter.
