Hello,
This is my first BMW and I'm looking for info on how to disable the DRL on my 2002 525iT SW.
I've been looking for wiring diagrams and forum threads on this and haven't had any luck. Does anyone have any info on how to disable the DRL, or, leads to a thread already out there?
Thanks,
Rich
Your best bet would be to do it with software. Look into getting PA Soft, it's pretty readily available with the cable on eBay. That'll let you code DRL's on and off without messing anything else up. That's how I disabled mine.

Thanks for the quick response.
Is there a relay or fuse for just the DRL's, or do they share the same circuit with other loads?
As was said, code them out, get used to this with your first BMW,
as several functions have the option of coding them active or inactive.
Not trying to dismiss the info shared, I'm just trying to gather as much info on the DRL, if there is other options.
I appreciate the info. Thank you for the link.

DRL on our wagons use the high beam lights. The control of this feature is adjustable (ON/OFF) by one of the on-board computers thereby you can use a hi-end scanner like Foxwell510 scanner to reset or use one of the lap top BMW applications to turn them off and on. Upgrade the bulb and you are good to go. This was one of the first things I did to my wagon upon purchase. Note: Check the self adjusters to confirm they are NOT broken. Grab the bulb connectors in the rear of the headlamp housing and see if it moves all over the place. If they do then they are broken.
Question: Does your wagon have angel eyes and Xenon low beams? Build Code: 522 Xenon Light. or does it have standard Halogen?
Note: There is no other way to change the DRL functions without using the in car computer to turn it on or off. There are no "other options" besides cutting the wires PERIOD.
Note #2: Please use the DIY links to the self help articles listed on the top of this forum, as it will save you lots of Q&A and responding posters time repeating what has been found/repaired/posted multiple times by previous owners over the last 15 years. You are NOT the first person to have problem XXX.

Not the ideal way to do it, but yes, it can be done. I did a few years ago, on a 02 525it even. In short I put a relay in, switched by the high beams, but the daytime high beam was too low a voltage to turn on the relay. With less than 10 bucks of relays from Amazon, a little wire and headlight terminals from Pick and Pull it worked fine, except for a warning about burned out high beams. I didn't have to cut any wires, just a bit of insulation on the ground. Got into quite a, lets say spirited discussion, too with some comments about skin color even. Eventually I did get them coded out, but until then I wasn't driving around like an a-hole. I had pictures, but they seem to be gone now.
