Help identify what this hose is please

So- after a long story with swapping engine, boiling, rebuilding, and then total engine failure- i ended up with swapping the engine again for another m54b30.

After i took the car from the garage that did the swap- i noticed a weird hose which is just completely loose- check pic.

When I asked them- they said that one is only needed on the e46 (the donor car), and they just forgot to take it off, but that there is no reason for me to worry about its presence..

Now afaik the m54 on e46 is identical 100% to the one on the e39 (except oil pan). But maybe i am wrong.. So do u have any idea what that hose is/was for? And... should i worry?

    Identified it!

So it is the one that goes out of the fuel ventilation valve. The question is- where should it have gone?

Cause from realoem i don’t understand what is the part it should connect to?

Looks like that may be the charcoal canister in that diagram

Probably but... where is it and where should that hose connect to?

Ps: i had an m52tub20, and swapped the m54b30 from an e46.

Idk where the charcoal canister is on the e39

I dont think anyone really knows where it is. Its that random gray cylinder that randomly appears after any bmw engine swap

Ok but can i delete the hose?
Is there any chance of it being non-existing at all on my car?

    LE:
    Found it!!

So the only thing that I need to find is-> which of these 2 lines are the one that go to the canister:

One of those lines is the fuel return line from the old m52 engine which had the return on the fuel injector line, not inside of the fuel filter like the m54. Need to figure out which one that is- and then it should be the other one.

Even if i find it- any idea how to easily check it without having to get to the canister by taking wheel and fender liner out?

    LE2: bingo!
I found it in one of my videos with the previous engine swap. It was connected here:

Can somebody with an e39 with a m54 engine quickly confirm?
