Trading 2017 WRX for 335i/340i, advise

    Hi,
As title says, I am thinking about trading in my 2017 WRX for one of those two.

Nothing wrong with wrx, just bored and i always wanted a 3 series.

Any there any major issues still with the HPFP? How easy / hard is it to tune? I got sick of Subarus "need a tune" everytime i dare to look at the intake funny.

Any advise would be super appreciated!

    Thanks!

HPFP is 2008 news. 2007-2010 and is models have N54 twin turbo N54 that has a little more potential than N55 but is older so turbos are closer to replacement. Don’t know much about 340i but a modded 3.0L six turbo probably has more potential than a modded 2.5L four turbo.

    Hey thanks.

How easy is the N55 to mod in terms of tuning required. Do i still need a custom tune everytime i add parts like the Subbies?

Probably not but I am not a 335i/340i expert. JB4, Cobb Access Port and MHD are popular for tuning and have some flexibility. Lots of mods available. Water/meth, charge pipes, intakes, updated turbos, bigger intercoolers, exhausts, etc. I don’t think the later single turbo is good for much past 375 rwhp but there are various upgrade options.

On any car, if you change major engine parts, you need a new tune. Especially true on turbo engines

Tunes on cars with HFM can be pretty flexible. I have used the same tune on my turbo 99M3 with 2 different motors (one with fully worked head), 3 different manifolds (tubular open, billet based open, billet based twinscroll), 4 different turbos (gt3582r, gtx4088r, efr8374, efr9180), and at power levels ranging from naturally aspirated (turbo bypassed) to 400 rwhp to 700 rwhp and everything in between.
