    99 sport wagon 5 speed

    Hi,

I put my 99 wagon 5 speed in the classifieds the other day. Do you guys think the price is right for what it is?

    Thanks,

A 5 speed sport wagon went through Bring a Trailer and sold today for $9300.00. 135K miles and needed some attention. I think the e39 wagons are starting to rise in value. They are such great cars and the word is getting out.

BaT is not really indicative of the broader market. Plenty of folks have landed tourings or 540 sedans for $1500 or less.

No, it is not indicative of the broader market. But... when I go to sell my car, I want to get the best possible price I can and for only $99.00, I will list with Bat. I like the flat rate fee not the 10 percent ebay charges. Plus, I like the last minute bidding that resets the clock at 2 more minutes for each bid within the last 2 minutes. I feel the serious buyers are looking at Bat. I use Craigslist when I want to dump wheels and tires etc.

The 5 speed puts it in even more of a niche market, but much more desirable to us in that market. Perhaps not a great comparison, but when I sold my 00 528it a couple of years ago, 250k, but looked and ran very well, I got $2500.

The thing about bring a trailer, modified cars or low mileage cars bring high bids. I am always amazed at what sells for what price on this site.
Many of the same cars that get high bids I owned and were worthless when I owned them, or, guys have spent a fortune on the restoration and the reserve is not being met. For example I owned a Maserati 3500 GT. I bought it for $5K and sold it for $25K and I was in heaven. Today, one sold for $210,000.00. How much was that restoration? Did the seller make his money back, did he make a profit? When a tail lights sell for 2 to 3 thousand dollars each I can't play in that league. But BMWs seem far more fun and reasonable. I want to fantasize that my car could be the next over the top ridiculous price vehicle sold on BAT, so I continue to pour money into making it a nicer car thinking that someday, if my car were for sale on this site, some guy might pay more way more than the car is worth for some esoteric reason and I could feel vindicated for spending too much money on the second love of my life.
I love to follow this site and see what sells, and I also want to believe that if I were to sell my car, it too would be worth the price that many of these "collectors" pay.
    So cliché, but, "just sayin'."
