Hey gang
I have been enjoying my first BMW an 01 525I wagon--LOVE this car--
One of the joys is Fantastic initial bite on the brakes--I just love the stopping power
My question is--when I go to replace the pads--what pad is it that gives this great cold initial bite? These dust like crazy but I do not care as they are very Quiet so......what pads from what vendor should I look at for this same performance--This is wife's driver NO hot driving but when I get in it I want it to stay same as it is now
Thanks
OEM is probably your best choice. Great bite comes with the dust. I installed Hawk PC ceramics, practically no dust and good braking but does not have the same initial bite.
is the OE pad so you can buy them from a dealer or in the aftermarket and still get the great cold bite and the dust that does not bother you.

You can always take a peek at the back of the pad to confirm what’s in it...

I started with OE pad Jurid, good bite but dusty, then Hawk Ceramic, no dust with terrible initial bite. Now on Cool Carbons low dust with great initial bite. I have heard Akebono’s are good as i have used them on other cars but not on E39 and their available at Advance Auto.
I have Akebono on my F02...no dust and good stopping power. (I did lose a bit on the initial bite but pleased with them) I just bought a set for F/R on the wagon and will be installing next week.

Akebono, such a cool name, how could go wrong with those?
I have the Akebono, no dust and not as good as OEM for initial Bite. Do a search for BMW E39 Brake Canon thread. They had them all listed.
Textar pads are good; great initial bite but a fair amount of dust.
Another fan of the Akebonos, I first got them for a previous touring with style 5s which are so difficult to clean. I'm not sure my butt dyno is as sensitive as some, but I haven't noticed any problems with brake response.
