On the E36 I have looked at lots of sway bars and I am wondering some have a bigger dip than others. Will this make the bar be more or less stiff or the same? of course as long as they are the same mm.

I think the longer the bar, the softer is it, given all other variables are the same (bar diameter, hollow, wall thickness, etc). But, maybe only the lever length and the horizontal distance matters since the stiffness comes from the twisting resistance .... good question!

The shallow style came on the 4cyl cars, deep version for the 6cyl. When on jackstands, at full droop, the shallow swaybar will rotate and could hit the front of the 6cyl oil pan. Ran into this issue when I did my engine swap, check out the thread below for pics.

Same diameter bars, the longer bar (with larger 'dip') will be less stiff. A bar will bend in torsion and/or longitude. Effectively, the longer bar is a longer spring of the same diameter, and hence less stiff. That's what makes sense to me, anyway! Yea, good question!Originally Posted by dirtdiggler

The shorter bar being more stiff makes total sense to me. And I am running a different engine in my car so clearence is not a problem.
On another note it looks like where the end links attach are the M3 bars longer so its more vertical for the link?
