ABS light is off when car is started, comes on soon after car starts moving. I tested the resistance of the 4 sensors at the abs module connector - each around 1000 ohms give or take, which I think is correct. At least that tells me it's not a wiring break anywhere.
So likely the pump or the module? Any thoughts or ideas?
My ancient carsoft refuses to connect to the module (or at least the module doesn't respond, but I suspect carsoft + serial->usb more than the module). I suppose I should get a newer INPA based diagnostic. Any recommendations that are good for the E31? (I remember reading in the past certain cables were not E31 compatible even if they had the round connector).
The e31 interface only work with the "old" RS-232 serial interface. Any type of usb converter will not work as far as I know. Maybe others can bring light into this question.
The only way to read all ECUs of the 8 is, using an ADS-Interface and a software called “DIS” or even “Easy DIS”. More info here: https://pusches.de/index.php/product/view/5/15
Hate to resurrect a thread (I searched first), but comments in other threads have been "most USB to serial adapters don't work", so apparently some do if that statement is correct. Is there an ADS interface that *does* work with USB (since I don't have a laptop with a serial port). I have the ADS->ODB adapter cable already. My car is a 1995 840Ci, build date: 6/94.
To answer my own question: The current ADS software is hard-coded to use IRQ4 on COM1 and is not open source. Only computers with a hard-wired serial port will work, and only if it does not use a USB chip to emulate the serial port (because USB with serial port emulation does not use IRQ4). Some PCMCIA cards will work, but not all. Thanks to those that have posted this elsewhere. I'll add links for attributions when I can find them again.
Cheers!
