2008 135i passenger side head light is out.

Hi folks new member here. The HID headlight on my 135i is out. I bought a new light, and it still doesn't work. Is there a trick, or maybe a relay or something that I have to replace as well. Any help is really appreciated.

Perhaps a faulty bulb? I switched mine out (also '08 135i) a few months ago and it just pops in and done.

Yes I tried two different bulbs, still doesn't work. I checked youtube, I think it may be a bad ballast.

Very troubled design on these, lots of issues due to condensation. Google around, it's a well known weak spot.

Your first mistake was to throw a part at it without properly diagnosing it. I know, I get it. There shouldn't be much diagnosing to a bulb. But the xenon is an exception. There used to be three parts to it: bulb, igniter (ballast), and xenon control module. Now the bulb and igniter are one part (the square box attached to the bulb). Xenon control module failures are just as common as bulb failures. They're mounted to the bottom of the headlight, and will collect any moisture or condensation and short out.

For anyone else that reads this, swap your bulbs side to side to easily confirm whether or not the bulb, or the module, has failed.

I would recommend swapping the working bulb to the side that was not working to see if it is a ballast issue. have you also checked to see if you need to replace the fuse?
