Common should have been a great many warning observations for the people who joined this "BimmerForums" ...I asked no more than 12 times about a purchase for $5k a 325 wagon.....The GM-5L40-E transmission is and has been failure....Thanks....you dedicated MORONS supportive for BMW forums...I have no more trust...for you. It IS a 15yo vehicle, with probably 150,000mi or more on engine/trans.
It absolutely amazes me that you are soo upset that it would require more than minor maintenance.
Transmissions do fail on every make and model ever made - GM,FORD,CHRYSLER,HONDA,TOYOTA,NISSAN etc...,
and yes unbelievably, even BMW!!
Yes it sucks, but I guarantee you one thing,
a 1959 MGA-Twin Cam,1963 RAMBLER, or whatever other old school vehicle in your stable,
cannot compare to the handling+comfort+performance of a BMW - The Ultimate Driving Machine!
So it's now time to suck it up and repair your vehicle,
or sell whole or part it out, and use the proceeds to upgrade to a newer BMW,
but this time make sure it's 5 or 6 Speed manual shift,then it's on you when it fails!
