No crank/no start

Found a 2004 330 coupe for sale locally for cheap. Owner says it has a no crank problem. Says someone diagnosed it as needing a starter. Both keys are available and the car has low mileage for its age. Thoughts? What is the likelihood of it being something major and not the starter?

You're gonna need a scanner to plug into that thing ($125). Could be a starter. Could also be a hundred other things. Be dispassionate. Check for a salvage title.

I have a carsoft and inpa diagnostic, but they’re picky about working sometimes. Seller says clear title.
