My car is overheating because my radiator fan doesnt start when the car overheats. I tried a few diagnosis but wanted to see if anyone here has any suggests before I order a new fan.
Here is what I found so far:
1. The Fan works when I turn the AC on
2. The coolant flows past the thermostat so that should rule out thermostat or water pump issues.
3. When I unplug the fan (AC off) after the overheat warning and plug it back in, it turns on for a second and then turns off.
4. I inspected the fuses and they seemed ok.
I am not convinced that the fan is bad because it works with the AC. The only thing I didn't test yet is the temp sensor with I assume should be working because it triggers the thermostat.
The fan at Canadian dealerships is soo expensive ($1900 at the dealership and about $1000 aftermarket) so I want to be sure thats the problem before I order it. Please help!
I might be a little late to help but it's my understanding that the water pump is bad in these models.
I think the water pump is also electric.
Were you able to find out the issue? I am having similar problem. My issue is the fan turns on every few seconds and stops right away. Even first thing in the morning. The engine doesn't heat up, the water flows and I can see it dropping in the coolant reservoir. I am assuming the problem could be Radiator fan sensor or the coolant sensor. If anyone has any idea, please let me know. Thanks
