just when i thought i had a handle on it....
went to do some repair inside the front door of my 99 528i wagon (business, NON-DSP car) I found what appears to be a crossover built into the factory 5.25 speaker box. is that what it actually is? has multiple twisted pairs running to it, that at first glance match the colors of the twisted pairs exiting the factory amp.
additionally. my fm reception SUCKS. but I live in the boonies. on my mazdas ive used a roof mounted amplified antenna from metra with good success. if I were to do this with the e39, would any ancillary issues arise from deleting the factory antenna and running all new stuff? im talking just the mount and mast, not the box under the c pillar)
Correct.
Some good info on antennas in tourings that you my find helpful before you commit to aftermarket : https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...enna-reception
So i guess 2 questions come up:
1. How to remove the c pillar?
2. What color carries the woofer signal?
Hi,
Take a look in the touring subsection of the E39 forum, I'm sure it's been asked previously on how to remove the C and D pillars. Look at the same section for the oem wiring colours.
Cheers, Dennis!
