Hello, I recently purchased a 2002 325ci. The top seemed slow (straining?) to open since buying the car but I did not have anything to compare it to so not sure that I am correct on that.
A few days ago it stopped while opening. The top unlocks at the windshield, the windows lower, the rear of the top raises and the storage compartment opens. As the top starts to lower into the storage compartment the top seems to stall. If I release the switch the top "flops" back down onto the windshield. Now when I open it and it starts to stop I can push it with my hand to get it past the stalling point. Most of the time this works but sometimes it just stops and will not go down.
I have had no trouble closing it.The really strange thing is sometimes it works fine.
I have read quite a bit on the problems with the tops but I can't seem to pinpoint the exact problem. I did cut open the wire harness that runs along the driver side on the top to see if any wires were broken. None appeared to be but I did not open each wire.
The hydraulic fluid is full.
Any thoughts?
