My 93 325is dual tranny, 74000 miles won't start since car wash. Fuel pump is not coming on.
I only saw the title, and I thought "E36"
I don't know what you mean by "dual tranny", but I recommend that you remove the DME (engine computer) from the computer box, open it up and dry it out, spray both sides of the connector with Wurth Electrical Contact Cleaner Oil, make sure it's properly mounted and grounded

Yup. Exactly first thing I thought too and figured it was an e36 for sure.

and I thought OBD1 E36 as well.
Now what happened in 1996 that this problem stopped?

Perhaps autocorrect translated “manual” to “dual.” It takes a computer to really screw things up.
oh - i see what you are saying....
for our purposes - let's make this simple - if you have a clutch pedal you have a manual, if you don't, you have an automatic. if you can choose PRNDL - you have an automatic.
e36's could suffer from a no start issue if run through a car wash or any situation where water was forced around the engine bay or lower windshield area. this is a well documented/known issue. as already mentioned, best thing to do is make sure the computer/DME box is dry (in your case, there will be two computers there - one for the engine and one for the tranny). basically, either in the computer location or i suppose elsewhere in the engine bay, there was most likely water intrusion.
abel - i'm not sure why it seems more common on the earlier e36's - although i've heard of it on later e36's as well, but less often.

Anytime someone goes on and on about superior German engineering just remind them of the genius placement of the DME in these cars.
