E36 325i | maintenance questions: Rotten Jackpoints, oil at dif, what to do?

    Hi all,

Recently I have done a big inspection at the car and that raised some questions. The car doesn't have a licence, and to get it road legal, it will need some work.

The main points for me are:
    - 4 new shocks/ might go for coiloverset.
    - rust at Jackpoints, probably can get a licence with the Dutch rules of rust, but anyone took care of this? I've seen some topics here. But not super clear to me. What to do with those jack points? Around the box (jack points) it's a lot of corrosion.
    - left rear brakeline over gasoline tank
    - front flexible brakeline
    - diff got thick old layer of oil, what to do with that?

    1. Remove back seat base, remove access covers, undo tank straps, this gives enough clearance to do over tank pipes.
    2. Flexi lines, basic job just change and bleed. Seal reservoir with a bag or prop pedal so down 2" to stop losing fluid and getting air in the ABS
    3. Shocks / struts - basic stuff just get a decent make
    4. Oil leaks on diff, check level, replace seals or not. Make sure that rear left shaft is fully inserted

Sills, depending how bad, patch the bottoms with 1.3mm or 1.6mm plate or buy pattern coupe sills and cut them up to reduce fabrication time.
The car has side skirts so if not extensive I would o with cheap thick plate

That rust does not look bad. I have seen much much worse. Run it till it blows!

    Avus Cosmos Calypso!
go to town with brake cleaner on the diff housing and use a catch pan. I would drain that thing first and see what comes out. Looks really nasty. Might want to replace the fluid 3x within 15km or something. Grind off the rust and weld some plates as others suggested. Seal with good rust proof sealant, then something rubbery/asphalt based.
