Hi everyone, so the time has come and I have finally accumulated a parts list..
Long story short, I have an m50b25nv long block that I'm building for boost.
I was about to purchase my forged 135mm rods, and 10:1 Wiseco pistons, when a friend of mine offered me his s52 crank.
m50 cranks are cast, so running a forged crank, that also strokes the motor from a 2.5 to a 3.0l would be AWESOME.
Apparently, s52 cranks are the same part number as m54b30 cranks, which all of the internals (rods, pistons, crank) drop right into an m50 to make a 3.0l stroker build.
My question: Can I run an s52 crank, (I know the 135mm forged rods will fit), and wiseco m50 pistons in my motor?
Thanks guys, If anyone is interested I can post pics of all of the work being done as well.
Pistons will hit the head. Compression height needs to be matched with stroke and rod length. Also just an FYI, the stock rods are forged.
s52b32us is the only s52 variance.
m54B30 crank is the exact same part number as an s52 engine.
m54b30 rotating assembly will drop right into m50b25 vanos, and non vanos blocks (they're the same.)
m54b32us/s52/m50b25 non vanos motors all have 135mm rods.
m54b30/s52 crank, any 135mm rods, m54b30 pistons (can't use s52 because pistons aren't 84mm bore like m54b30 & m50)
-----------> All have 135mm connecting rods: 1987-91 325i,1995-1998 328 / 728, 97-98 & 01-02 Z3, 98-99 Z3 M, 03-05 Z4, 01-05 330i, 94-99 M3
SO,
I will keep the m50nv block, 135mm rods, m54b30 forged pistons, and the s52 (also m54b30) crank from my friend will fit!
This post turned into every stoker discussion on this website, but..
My end goal was achieved! Forged internal, stock bore, stroker 3.0l m50!
Thanks for the reply, got my head spinning!

You can bore an m50 block big enough for s52 pistons. M50 and s52 have the same casting cores. They just bore the shit out of the s52. If you have access to some stock s52 pistons it would be a good cheap way to get some extra displacement on the cheap.
I figured that out, seems that all the blocks are the same & are just bored for more displacement.
I'll be doing what I said above though & going m54 crank, Eagle rods, and probably something like 10:1 or maybe if they have the stock compression, 10.4:1 Wiseco pistons.
just get the right forged pistons since you have got any yet
Figured i'd update my dead thread!
The car:
91' 318is, poly bushings with a leaky m50tu , I somehow ended up going for this ridiculous drift build i've always had in my mind.
e36 m3 steering rack, e46 arms, all poly bushings front & rear, weld on toe/camber brackets, ect...
~Parts list~
Motor:
m50b25 long-block (I pulled almost 3 years ago for these plans, lol)
m50b25nv head (staying stock freshly rebuilt for now)

looks pretty clean! too bad i'm only using the block (obviously the benefit it being an iron block over aluminium)
m54b30 84.5mm 9:1 wiseco pistons (0.5mm overbore to ensure straightness of the block)
2csjdxe.jpg(not my hand haha)
135mm K1 forged connecting rods

stock m54b30 forged crank (got the entire long-block for $100 on FB market :P )

RHD lightweight m50 to zf flywheel, they told me it would be a direct fit with all of the zf trans parts (master/slave), and an m20 clutch kit.

clutch kit: Clutch Masters fx400, just installed one on my friend's sETA m20 & it feels great.

figured i'd include my pan i've had on the car, it will be swapped over, cut/reised/widened oil pain with AN bung ready for turbo (obviously pre-welded pic.)

I think the baffling should be good enough, had a forum member make the pan for me years ago..

speaking of turbos!
precision 6176, .81 AR, 2.5" v-band out
goodn'tight manifold, i'll probably have the waste-gate runner redone as it looks pretty poor for exhaust flow.

turbosmart bov & wastegate, 14psi spring pressure, for now
very nice intake i scoured the inter-webs for

very nice porting!

AEM e85 compatible drop in fuel pump, zf to e30 trans parts with dssr, zf clutch master/slave/lines, revshift driveshaft swap adapter, condor street poly motor/trans mounts.
I still need to decide on an oem e36 328 driveshaft temporarily, or ordering a custom one-piece.
wbw9hw.jpg
nuke performance fuel rail bracket, guess what that means!

haven't decided on injectors yet, something easy with flowcharts to make the tun easy for the guy.

Why the widened oil pan?
Was gonna ask the same question

PNP solution to m50 turbo, very easy to tune, standalone with map sensor!
(come on, everyone hates MAFs!)

also being that you can display EVERYTHING on a tablet live, I'm basically saving money on nice gauges :p
Chase bays FPR, hydro, brake booster eliminator, ABS delete, and brake line relocation kit.
I've swapped to e46 brakes, rotors, and hubs, so i'll be reusing my stock rear calipers for a true rear caliper system.

And of course, all the gaskets, bushings, ect. for the long-block, and an m52 pump with new internals to rebuild.
M52 pumps have slightly thicker pump "gears", so they actually produce a little more oil psi, only modification is having to notch my girdle (no pics, here a stock image of what i'm talking about.
Reminds me, 8mm thick mild steel main stud girdle, with ARP mains, ARP head-stud, along with a Cometic MLS head-gasket.

Here's the car, figured I'd show how much room i'll have after that booster & ABS are gone!
Got in an accident about a year ago, worked out in my favor, got smoke depo lights & a tube front!
Bay will be painted with the swap, this is the current, "beater" motor in it.

SO all this being said, i'm trying to decide on some stock cam swaps!
Anyone know of any good cams I can swap into this thing that fits/I can modify to fit on my m50nv head?
to recap
9:1 CP, fully forged m50b30 stroker 3.0l turbo, precision 6176 4" in anti-surge, 2 1/2" vband out, .81 AR hotside.
Trying to find some budget friendly turbo cams, I may rock this stock head & save up to do a head swap with some upgraded valves/springs, and cams that are better performing.

m50 swapped e30 pans sit very low, and im lowered something like 4", no worries about cracking my pan now, as it sits above the subframe.
