I start running out of major issues with my car, time to tackle the less important ones!
Whenever I change driving direction (forward to reverse or the other way around), there is a small "bell" like sound coming somewhere around drive shaft or differential area, certainly from the back.
Showed it to a mechanic he said it's not worth to fix it, not a real issue etc (he is somehow familiar with E38s but not too much).
Do you guys agree? Any way I can fix it without a lift and breaking the bank?
Thanks!
The noise comes (usually) from the rear CV joint - it can be replaced, or more economically the grease can be replaced and the pre-load on the joint checked as described here:

So its the ring gear/fly wheel vibraring when drive or reverse engage. I believe the problem is in the movement of the release bearing. Unfortunately the fix means pulling the trans. So dont bother until the clutches start slipping or you start having rough gear engagement, even then topping up fluid or changing the filter can fix those problems. My 99 did it, I just kept driving.
