Help, please! When I start up in the morning and put the shift in D or SD, I'll accelerate and the car doesn't move. However, if I put it into M, it moves. For the rest of the day, D and SD work fine. A fluid issue or what?
Many thanks.
The first step in diagnosing a problem is to scan the engine computer (DME) and the transmission computer (EGS) for codes. Your transmission was made by GM of France. It uses a Dexron3 fluid.
Has the transmission ever had its fluid and filter replaced? “Lifetime fluids” was a marketing ploy, and not a maintenance philosophy.
Find a reputable indie shop in your area via www.bimrs.org.
Many thanks, Marco. I'll check if my guy can do it or consult the local specialist listed about 20 minutes away. Paul
Btw, the transmission was made by GM of France. How do I know? All awd E46s have an automatic transmission made by GM of France. The transmission uses Dexron3 fluid. A synthetic Dexron such as Redline D4ATF is fine.
