I know this is the e39 section. But the x5 section doesn’t seem like much help. So I just picked up a 2003 x5 3.0 in blue topaz 136k miles for my niece. I’m an e39 guy. So I know the 3.0. Had a bunch of issues so I got it for cheap. Slowly sorting through them. Like I did the driver door handle inside and out. Also the key cylinder. Couldn’t open the drivers door from inside or out. It also had a bunch of misfires. New ngk plugs and Bosch coils took care of that. Car was only firing on 3 cylinders and felt like crap. Now runs like a champ. Also had wet carpet front compartments. More so the passenger side. Cleaned the sunroof drain lines. And found a crimp in the passenger side drain line. Repaired that. No more leaks. But I’m afraid the LCM may have gotten wet. The rear taillights and headlights are not working. Fog lights work signals work. But green indicator and tick on dash not working. When the light switch is on position. Dash lights flicker like a Christmas tree. And the pass rear window rolls down by itself. I was able to put it up yesterday. But after removing the lcm today it rolled down and will not roll back up. Need advice as I’m ok with the mechanical stuff. But electronics get me stumped.

Possible that the LCM got wet, and/or the power panel under the passenger seat carpet (if it's there on the X5).

Well I got the brake lights figured out. Turns out the lcm is ok. It was the rear driver side light assembly itself. Had a short in the “logic board”. Completely rusted out at the bottom. But I still haven’t figured out why my green arrow indicators are not working. And why my rear driver side window rolled itself down and won’t roll back up. Oh and the radio is not working at all
Have you checked the power panel?

Fuse box?? Yes
I have no clue how this relates to an X5 (probably best to post there and just give it some time for responses). But assuming there are electronics under the floor boards, I think a good start would be to remove the seats and pull up the carpet. Could be a lake underneath the carpet.
Agreed, if there was water intrusion that'd be the first stuff to check.

Agreed. Sounds like it could be a floor fuse rot rust situation if E53’s have the same setup as E39/38 ? I imagine they do as those cars are all closely related...
The window btw would be controlled by the GM and not the LCM. But it might not be a module issue, could be a simpler short. I’d pull the door panel and test volts at motor and switch etc.

Ok. I’ll check for voltage as soon as I get a chance for the window. And yeah I have a lake under the carpet I’ve been trying to dry out. The e53 forum sucks. I like you guys better and y’all give better advise. Since the e53 is very similar to the e39 I figured you guys would know better. They might’ve well just used sponge under that carpet. The padding is just as thick and soaked up so much water. I did pull up some of it on the pass side and there is a white panel with screw. Not sure if it’s s dude box like the e39. Tried searching the web for fuse locations and there’s no mention of any under the pass floor

Btw. What controls the green arrow signal indicators (for lack of a better term). And the radio. Radio lights on. But won’t turn on
The white panel is the sub-power distribution panel. It SHOULD NOT BE WET!
Pull the seat and carpet, and let everything dry out. Carefully examine the assembly for corrosion.
The General Module behind the glovebox controls the interior lights.

Sub power panel...as in another fuse box? Like in the e39? And the general module controls which interior lights. The map/reading lights? Or do you mean the signal? And what do you think about the radio?

Just an FYI about the e53 fuse locations (from someone from the horrible e53 forum )...the e53's HIGH AMP fuse box isn't under the front right (passenger) seat. The e53's high amp fuse box is located in the left rear of the vehicle. The other locations are in the glovebox area and the rear right (behind the cargo panel).
You can see the 3 major fuse locations for the e53 in the diagram below...and the other attached image shows the high amp fuse distribution box that is below the front passenger seat in the e38/e39...but in the left rear of the e53:

Thanks...but don't pat me too hard on the back on this one. This knowledge abut the e53 high amp fuse box is only due to having one...as well as having had an e39 and e38.
I could see how it could easily be assumed the the e53 is like it's generational cousins and have the high amp fuse box located under the front passenger seat. But this is one of those circumstances where BMW went in a slightly different direction.

thanks qsilver. Yeah I figured that out after pulling out the passenger seat and lifting the carpet. Man that padding under there can hold a ton of water. And the white panel is just a cover over the main wire harness. Like 100+ wires. So I dried it out. Took care of the sunroof leak (drain hose pinched from factory). Don't know how it ever worked. Replaced tail lights with facelift lights. Now brake lights work. The crap battery that was in the car. So replaced it with a better quality new one. Now tail lights work. Door locks work. Rear window goes up and down. The only issues now are the signal indicators on the cluster and the radio not working.

Check the radio fuses, and all the other fuses.
