    Just 1 E38, for now

    Farewell, good friend.

Today, there was closure, seeing a dear friend for the first time since the last time.
To just about everyone, your car is simple. It's a machine. It's a tool. It's just another material item. This one however, was more than just another car, even beyond most enthusiasts.
I'll always have a piece of you now, in your younger brother. One of the most meaningful additions I made I have again, the generosity of a enthusiast helped that happen.
Your 7 years of service and 100k hard, abused and pushed to the limits miles trained me, educated me, broke me, and most of all provided flawless service.
We had our differences, but we understood each other. I knew what you needed before you called for help.
We spent 18 hour days in the summer for 6 days non stop for an emergency manhunt, including a high speed chase and you didn't quit, my child's life depended on you, and you never quit on me.
You helped me go 2600 miles from home when it was an absolute emergency, mere few hundred miles after your rebuild and never got broken in. You got me there and home safely. You didn't quit on me.
You never quit when I needed you. Never. This is what makes it different, people have their stories to tell, mine are just more rare than most.
When I needed you, you were on demand. When you were pushed to the limits you were up to the task. Because of that, you were never neglected. My only regret was being forced to liquidate you, and killed by an idiot.

    Farewell, dear friend.

    Project 2 oh 1....begins. 20180817_182447.jpeg20180817_182426.jpegFB_IMG_1525991530150.jpegFB_IMG_1525991250587.jpegFB_IMG_1525991074282.jpeg

Geez man you're going to make me cry here...

I remember all of these 'good old times'. Those 6 days in summer looking for your loved one were a nightmare - I didn't say much at the time because I couldn't exactly contribute, but was there for you! That care sure has been through the ringer but damned if it didn't prove itself to you a few times over. To be honest I'm actually really sad to have seen that car go.

You said killed by an idiot?? What happened??

all the bitching, little things here and there, a few mistakes, 20 year old parts....the one thing she did every day was start, run, and drive. these cars are not as fragile as people think.

killed by an idiot...treated like crap, hydrolocked, filth and apparently drugs all over the car.

Touching homage for an obviously loved Bimmer. Sad ending. Karma will repay your devotion.

Touching story and always one of my fears is selling to another that does not appreciate it.

As I sit and watch the iL in the driveway, dust and dirt gathering on it, a broken engine, the chain tensioner, hood latch, Alpina lip and amp coax taken from it already for other cars, and a flat rear tire, I'm beginning to think, I'm THAT guy. I want to get it running again with a new engine, but the daughter that it was going to wants a small zippy 3-series instead. What to do.

Like you, I spent countless hours, and what seems like countless cash getting the car to my "perfect". They are machines, and they sooner or later will fail beyond our willingness to keep them running. Watching someone else destroy our work is even harder to take.

Move on to the new project, I'm loving my new to me DINAN 7, but I'm sure the iL is seething at me like an old wife that's been jilted for a trophy babe.

I keep the sig photo below of the iL for now to keep her image in her glory day.

Damn man, I saw your post on FB and it was heartbreaking, I can't imagine watching something you went though so much with just trashed like that. Me and a friend were heavily considering picking it up and fixing it but it was too much to take on at the moment. I dread the day when mine has to meet its maker, hopefully that is a long way away.

It is a true metric of a real enthusiast when you get effected like that for what is just a machine.
