All,
We have a E46 320d of 2004.
The car runs good and the stationair rpm is sollid.
With low throttle pressure the rpm of the engine increases steady tot 4.000 rpm.
I have checked with INPA the voltage of the throttle but this seems to be ok.
stationair 0,35 and 0,7 V and with limmited throttle pressure 0,5 and 1,0 V.
If you drive the car the first pressure on the throttle gives a real boost where the rest of the ride the thottle respons is as it should be.
Does one of you has an idea what could be the cause of this problem?
thx. Robert
Automatic or manual gearbox?

The first step in diagnosing a problem is to scan the engine computer (DDM) for codes. The Service Engine Soon (SES) light is on only when an emissions related code is present.
Yesterday, I did the 'reset' again....5 times now...for the 5 speed automatic...mine is the GM...but will also refer Zf...........The computer learns throttle and transmission upon driver habits... The reset involves a simple step....Pedal to the floor...Turn the key half the way before start...time 30 seconds..then engauge start...(don't turn the key back...just turn forward...transmission is now reset to factory.

There is more..throttle also has involvement for transmission performance and general shifting. There is also, in addition to 'transmission reset' another component..not shared. One must also..in addition to transmission reset...must also reset the THROTTLE memory position....Few know this...unless you engage your local BMW dealer.....Without BMW throttle-transmission interaction...you will hate BMW

Marco,
The only erros I have are related to the glow pluges. The engine startes without a problem.
No other erros codes in the car.
All it is a E46 320D (diesel) with manual gear of 2003 so with the 150 BHP engine.
thank.
When was the fuel filter last changed? Is the fuel pump original? It sounds like a fuel delivery issue.
I'm not sure when they have been replaced.
To be clear the problem is not that the RPM is not increasing or not fast enough it is just that if I give only a small amount of gas (throttle) the RPM increases from 1.000 to 4.000 rpm steady when the car is in neartral.
When driving the car the ride is ok only when I have let go of the throttle and step on the thottle slightly the accalatation is directly.
I have checked with INPA just now and as long as I keep the thottle value below 0,5 and 1,0 volt the rpm does not increases. it wil increae from 830 rpm to 900 - 950 rpm but that is is. Once I go step on the throttle slightly more so the value of the throttle goed over 0,5 and 1,0 volt the rpm increase from 1.000 to 4.000. at 4.000 rpm in neatral I let go of the throttle as I believe this not not in the best intrest of the engine.
The only error codes I have are for the glow pluges but no error's on the dash.
You have a fuel delivery issue. I’m betting if you check the fuel pressure you’ll find it’s low.
I have checked it and in INPA the desired and actual pressure are more or less egual.at 830 rpm (stationairy) they read approx 305 to 308.once I put my foot to the pedal the rpm increases and so do both of the presuere readings.thay are not more then 2 to 5 counts appart.Would a lack of diesel not result in lack of power instead of increasing power?I have driven some more with the car and the first like 3 to 5 mm of the throtle act as an ON / OFF switch.OFF the car decreases speed obviously but with 3 to 5 mm thortle the car increases if I apply more throthle the car increases faster in speed clearly as it gets more diesel and at some stage the turbo starts to help.I hope this does shine some additional light on the matter. For sure with in the next 2.000 km the diesel filter will be changed.
Hi everyone.
I am sorry to revive this thread but did you find out what the cause was to the problem with your car?
I have an e46 320d same model as yours with the exact same behaviour.
Can you help please?
