What am i limited in terms of power for a cutring headgasket and arp headstud upgrade to a 220 k miles car, i want to turbo soon and the turbo is a gt35 rated for 500, can i run that and be safe for the engine and not pushing the turbo, or should i upgrade to a gt30 (600+) and be safe with that and do all supporting mods for 600. i know its a lot of "depending on the tune" but i just want to know what i am limited to in terms of power and boost.
What fuel do you intend to run? If pump gas you will also need to add the copper spacer as well to lower the compression a bit. If everything is right about 550 whp is the max that will be safe before you’ll be at risk of pretzeling up the rods. A gt35 is good for about 650 whp. A gt30 is smaller than a 35.
yes i will be running pump gas, and honestly im okay with 550 cause thats pretty good for basically stock until i can upgrade parts and make more. gt30 is smaller but says it can make more for some odd reason i dunno ill try and post a build progress if interested but im sure im not the only one doing this type of build.
Whoever said a gt30 will make more power than a 35 is not a reliable source of info lol. A 35 or similar size precision or BW is the minimum that should be considered for what your trying to do. Look into the Garrett gtw turbos like the gtw3884
On a 220k mile S52, I’d stay conservative unless you don’t mind blowing it up and building a motor. Definitely drop CR with the spacer. Are you running 91 or 93 pump gas? Will you be using water/meth? If it was me, I’d aim for more like 500 lbs and 500 rwhp if I wanted to reduce the risk of having to take it all apart and swap in another S52 or build a motor.
