Does your ULF BT module sync contacts with iPhone?

Mine does not. I am using an iPhone X and have the Bluetooth setting for the the ULF set to sync.

With this switch set to sync it seems to try to do something as the BT connection connects and drops over and over. Shutting sync down resolves this.

I can live with it but was just curious if it’s my setup or just a matter of old technology not playing well with new.

I had the same issue on Android after an update on a X3 2004. Swapping the ULF to a later 2007/8 sorted it. I do have to activate pairing using a laptop but once done you don't need to touch it. It didn't handle multiple phones too well, so I just use the phone for the main driver of that car.

Thanks, good to know you had a similar issue, it's just bugging me even though I know from past experiences with early BT modules in my E65 that the ability to store and search through contacts using the car's interface is hoakey. I have also found that calls received and dialed from the phone do not store the recent call log. Again, all stuff I can live with because it is easier to actually go to the phone.

I've also had an earlier e65 and now a later e66. All glitches fixed with the last few module versions.

Yes, my F10 worked well. I am not going to upgrade for this issue though. It works fine for voice calls, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. Would love to here from others too, especially with an iphone.

IME nadda ladda E39 guys have the ULF BT module.

Some interesting version info here. Of course they're slinging gear so they'll err on the side of making it out to be a horror story but interesting story about the US dealers and seeing how many versions came out over time...

I have about 3 ULFs (IIRC) from gen 3-5.

All have worked with my SE (newest IOS). Though some tend to put up a fight when entering the pair code.

If you JUST finished pairing the phone, you may have to turn off the car and exit pairing mode for the list to sync.

When you turn the ignition back on, just make sure it's still paired and it should begin syncing.

Thanks, I have done all this a few times. I don't have an issue with pairing, I just don't get any contacts on the cars system. There is no sync or address book download. It is all in the cloud though which I just thought of while typing this DOH!, I bet that's it.

With one of my previous phones the contacts list did not get automatically transferred to the ULF. However, the ULF accepted the bluetooth contacts transfer immediately after the initial pairing process if it was done manually from the phone. Not sure how to do this with an iphone though.

I bet it's that. These systems likely take info on the phones internal drive.

Actually not many people know this but SIM chips themselves support recording and storing an address-book/contact-list. On old phones there'd be various options to choose the internal or SIM contact list and to trigger a copy / sync between the 'native' contact list w/ the SIM card, the idea being when you swap your SIM around you always have your contacts updated and with it. That's long since stopped being used by modern phones AFAIK (been out of the biz for a LONG time...) but perhaps the early revs of the ULF did something that explicitly looked for the SIM-contacts...

It’s been a little while since I’ve had a ULF, but my contacts did transfer over. Might have to go into the Bluetooth settings on the phone and enable contact sharing.

I tried it again yesterday, this time flipping the sync switch on the ULF entry in Bluetooth and just checked off favorites and recents. No luck. In addition, when I turn on contacts sync it really messes with my Bluetooth connections. They drop, connect, drop, connect...repeatedly. Obviously the phone is trying to sync and it's getting shut down.

All good though, I like the voice integration.
