After a recent bout of storms through North Texas, I opened up my touring driver door and it dumped out water on the ground. It seems like the water was trapped in the door itself but it drained when I opened it so is there something I need to check to prevent it from filling up? I recently replaced all the door handle gaskets and none of the other doors did this.
I should note, this happened in the past and I found tape covering a hole on the front of the door. Is there another drain hole I missed that may be clogged? Is there something that is letting in all the water?
I did a search but found nothing other than issues with sunroof drains.
I'm guessing it got in through either the handle or the window. I bet your door drains got clogged by the water in there moving debris around and when you opened it the movement dislodged the debris letting the water pour out.
The doors are never 100% watertight, as the window seal of the door weather strip let's water into the door. At the bottom inside of my E32 doors and most probably also on the E34 doors, there is a drain hole at the front and a drain hole at the rear of each door, inside at the bottom. Just above the item 8 covering https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=41_0734
This item 8 covering usually get's hard and brirrle, once you have removed it from the doors, better buy new ones, otherwise they might fall off when re-using them.
These drain holes in the doors get clogged, clean them, otherwise water will remain inside the doors and rust starts. Also when the outer door handle seals are crumbled away, water enters to the inside of the door, often looks like this http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=aag8yx&s=5#.W3UPc-8UmUk
The gaskets are not available from the dealer as single item, only with the cover = more expensive, but I can deliver those single gaskets, see in the E34 classifieds section

I've already replaced all the door handle seals BEFORE the rains. I'll check to see if there is a second drain that is clogged.
Thanks
here you can see 1 drain hole on a E32 front door, left side at the bottom, just above the item 8 covering http://bmwe32.masscom.net/sean750/do...dDoorPanel.jpg and another drain hole is at the front bottom
