2014 X3 2.8i complete transmission replacement - has anyone else encountered?

My wife's 2014 was in for a regular oil change and was brought back in for a transmission leak - I've had this happen on numerous vehicles a seal, an o-ring, a housing.

However today the update came back that the entire transmission is being replaced.

This is a CPO vehicle so we won't have any out of pocket cost; however, it seemed odd on a vehicle with 43K on the ODO to need an entirely new transmission.

We bought it Oct. of 17 CPO, it was a lease return out of California.

I am calling the service writer tomorrow to determine why the transmission is being replaced and see if we should flip the car or ask BMW for special consideration on a different vehicle.

Turns out it was a metallurgy issue with ZF - leaking through the actual case. Pretty wild. From the service writer it sounds like it isn't that uncommon.
