Bummer - the grid will be worse off, and the on-air radio transmissions too...

Sorry to see him go, but have to admit I understand.

Suppose that makes Kimi the official old man on the grid.

I wonder what where the behind the door reasons for this? He probably wanted the same pay but McLaren said we can't afford to pay you that much any longer, so only thing Alonso can do is announce his retirement and hope some other F1 would want to pay that much to him. That is how its done.
Ferrari did the same think to Kimi, so he accepted less pay to stay.

Let's not forget Fred's history with McLaren.
Glad to see him washed up, good riddance Fred, you rat.

Looks like Carlos Sianz will take Alonso's seat at Mcl.

Was hoping for some new blood, like Lando Norris from F2

SIA and VAN at McLaren now? Oh my... what a weak driver lineup for a team that keeps talking about how it's just experiencing a slightly rough patch (for about half a decade now!).

Of course in typical Alonso fashion, the team will come good after he leaves it. Oh the story of Fernando's ill-advised decisions....
