Well I just messed up my headlamps..... GRRRRR

So my xenon bulb exploded on pass side, and I purchased a new set of bulbs. well removed headlamps from vehicle and inspected and replaced bulbs. found drivers side light had corrosion on connector for adaptive headlamp module on bottom of lamp (what a hell of an idea BMW). so Stupid me grabbed some electrical contact cleaner and my cleaning kit and cleaned the connections up. ok simple enough. Wasnt thinking and when I turned the lamp back over the electical contact cleaner ran on the inside of the lens. GRRRRRRR now its stained on the inside.

put a little bit of water in through the breather vents on back and quickly tried to rinse off the lenze and then removed the moisture but the lens is stained and F'ed....

I have been reading a few posts on E60 forums and they are all just a bunch of people arguing about how to remove the lens to install some angel eyes. there are some you tube vids but they are also very unclear on what needs to happen to seperate the lens from housing.

    Anyone do this?

I was under the impression that the xenon was a sealed unit

yes, they are sealed and BMW does not sell replacement lens for them but many other companies do, I am really confused as to how to open them and change the lens without completely destroying the lamp.

BMWJake sells a good set and the glue and what not but if its something I dont wana take on then I wont.

Well I looked over night and from what I can tell it would be better just to replace the whole assembly

True you may can find the lens for about $150. Pry it off with heat, screw drivers, and flat blades. Clean up the edges and use the OCI butyl rubber glue to put the new lens in place

That just seems like a whole lot of time and trouble for something you might could find for not much more money

have you looked at what a new headlamp assembly costs? 1500 or so from BMW, 750 or so from ebay. ECS has for 700ish.

even salvage yards around here want 500 plus for a assembly.

I’m just thinking about labor and something that is not a real common DIY you come across.

Here's a link to a guy in France that customised his light modules, to enclude new lenses. https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sh....php?t=1288704

Google can be your friend here. There are at least 5-6 threads over the past 6-8 years on guys diying headlight repairs on this forum and 2 others.

    Good luck.
