Just want to say sorry beforehand but I can’t seem to get definite answers even though there are so many posts on the subject
I just picked up a set of 5 Style 5s for 200 bucks & will be putting them on my e36m. I know I need rings but what about 5mm spacers? Do they clear the M brakes without them?
Also I will not be rolling my fenders & the car is lowered. Would 215s or 205s make it happen?
A little bit of rubbing isn’t a problem for me.
Any help?

205/40/17 will help get everything to fit, no idea on the spacers but plan on doing lots of rear fender work, there is a ton of metal that is back there and just about as in the way as possible. Some good stiff coilovers will help as well
Should I throw my stock springs back on in the rear or would you have any recommendations?
I always recommend high rate coilovers from Broadway Static, stock springs are tall but very soft
The ET value will be the main factor.
There are different versions of the 8x17” version.
If they have (around) ET41 you will have no issue and can fit a normal sized tire.

Most 17x8 that I have seen are +20, same size and offset that I ran for quite a while, if you have the +41 offset you will be fine
Appreciate the help

Mine are the +20
yeah +20 take a fair amount of fender rolling and pulling but fill out the stock body really well
Not looking forward to touching the fenders
If no fender work, it’ll be silly camber.

ET20 wheels on the E36 will be located closer to the fender, leaving less room for the tire. The Style 5 are nice BBS 2 piece wheels but the E39 version in 17x8 ET20 does not fit the E36 well for performance use because you must use narrow tires. Even with excessive rear camber like kids think looks cool, you can’t really fit even stock M3 size rear tires and the silly camber wears out tires and makes handling worse. If you are happy with 205s maybe 215s then you will be ok. An Eastwood type fender roller is about $70 these days.
You may get away with it...just.
8x17 ET20 vs 8.5x17 ET41 for the widest stock (M3) wheel.
Since ET is the distance to the centerline of the width, changing the width also affects the ET (with all other things being equal)
So in this case if you would go from an M3 wheel, to above 8" wide Et 20 wheel, the wheel will come 15mm more outwards.
There is quite some room even with stock M3 wheels, so rubbing might only be a bit / an inner lip role maybe all that is needed.
And then you can run normal width tires.

Looking for a local shop that can do a decent roll before I try my hand at it. hopefully I can keep near stock body lines

That’s good to hear. Eases some worries. I definitely want to avoid waves/bumps or paint chips.
Dig out the goo before rolling the inner lip. It’s not easy to dig out. But you can then roll the inner lip flatter.
Found one place local in Columbia that quoted 100 for just the rears. Is it necessary to get the fronts done too? Trying to get 225s to fit all around after the roll.
Depends, test fit them and post up pics, $50/fender is at the high end of what I would pay and I would expect the results to be pretty much perfect
Also maxed out my coils today & picked up some of the 10-15mm oem pads from the junkyard to give the rear as much clearance as possible
Is it really worthwhile to run these wheels given the figment issues and need to limit tire width and/or raise ride height? They are a downgrade from 17” M3 staggered wheels for performance. An upgrade from 15s. Probably an upgrade from 16s.
My e36 M is a convertible w an auto trans. I am not particularly concerned with performance. Just looks & a reasonable amount of functionality as my daily driver. Fenders will be rolled Tuesday afternoon. I’ll take some before & after pictures
They are good looking wheels. I put a set on my 99 528i. I took them apart, stripped them, polished and powder coated in clear coat. Much bigger job than I thought it would be.
