Automatic Wipers not Working

Drove in the rain today for the first time with this new, for me, 2004 330i. It appears that the automatic wiper mode is not working properly. I only get a wiper swipe if I move the thumb adjustment switch to another setting but other than that the wipers do not move, even with heavy rain.

Is this a common problem? What is the fix?

I have two other bimmers with automatic wiper capability with no issues.

Check the rain sensor in the rear view mirror base.

Are you sure the car has the automatic wipers system? It was part of an option package as I recall.

The windshield looks new. Is there a calibration or reset needed of the sensor for the new windshield. The windshield has the sensor pad and there are no air bubbles showing.

Go to bimmer.work (it’s a real website) and rnter the last 7 characters of the car’s VIN. Prove you’re not a bot and then read the report. It will tell you which option packages are in the car.
