thank you - got a short cut to "test" selonoide leed for starter ? i cant get my hands past all the intake bellows etc. to pull leed at starter - to ck 12v in wht wire or jump starter to "test". car has 130k miles on it. not sure if starter ever changed.
i tried the "tap" on starter - ='s no luck. i'm good w/ e30 or e28 - but e60 way too many gizmos 4 me. & bentley says "take to dealer"
bentley - so called wire diagram - shows wht wire from CAS module to selonoide. 06 530i w/ auto & dsc. i think it should have comfort access - but remote fob has no slot to replace battery. got e60 a few yrs ago (bank repo) so no telling whats been done.
cas unit is a wht box (seemens) under dash drivers side - ill drop box & look if cas 2 or cas 3 - if its says on box.
short cut to starter leed ? to test for 12v ?

correct - so i hooked up a led test lamp with a paper clip inserted into x60551 wht wire (starter selonide leed) - push starter button - led lights up ='S BAD STARTER
why cant Bemtely just show this simple test ? - if no 12v to test lamp - then u got CAS issues - u get 12v then bad starter.

ok now i have to change starter - & pull intake manifold - what a mess this looks like. any special items i should look out for ? - bentley book is as bad as a chiltons - remove intake - reassemble in reverse - gee thanks bentley
THANK YOU VERY MUCH IREGI time to lean over fenders - again thank you

No problem, I got that from the site jtbgonesailing linked. It's a great reference for everything BMW.
Here is the guide to replace the starter.
