HELP - Tensioner Pulley Broke and Pulled Chunk of Metal with It

    Hello,

Got a call tonight from my daughter saying the battery light came on in my 2002 330ci and it was hard to steer. I instantly figured the alternator+ belt broke only to find the mechanical tensioner pulley laying in the fan.

The upper bolt looks to have broken a while ago and the lower bolt held on for dear life and finally broke free taking a chunk of the aluminum casting it was bolted to with it. I’m praying that the bottom bolt is attached to some replacible bracket and not part of the block. It’s dark out and I only had my phone light to see.

Hoping somone one on the forum knows for sure.

    thanks,

    Marshall

If I recall there are two tensioners... it's too early in the morning.... refer to: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/par...BMW-330i&mg=11

Thanks chapter21p5! I ended up finding that the tensioner in question (alternator+) bolts to the oil filter housing so I just have to pick up a used one!

    The bracket, not the tensioner.

Glad to help. Junkyards are currently loaded with e46s. You will have no issue finding the parts. Also check out ecstuning.com metal pulleys for the e46. You will never have the pulley break. The plastic pulleys are shit.
