Sudden sluggish acceleration, rpm shoots up!

So, this is a recent/sudden problem with my vehicle. I drove the vehicle to work and when driving home.... even if I floor it, it accelerates very slowly, rpms surge, and I can hear the engine whine.

I drove it on city roads in a forested area of it matters.

The Vanos was replaced 2-3 years ago.

My question is it possible the vehicle isn't getting enough fuel or air? I don't see any obvious leaks.

Oh, and nothing on the scanner... no lights on either.

Okay so what I've figured out.

The vehicle is jumping into 5th gear right away, at fairly low speeds. This may have something to do with the adaptive cruise control and how the precious owner drove the vehicle.

I do not have this problem when using the steptronic.

Is there any way to address this?
