    Broken gear selector wire

    Hello all,

I fucked up pretty bad and snapped my gear selector wire when messing with the wrong bolt (trying to replace selector o-ring) on my 88 735 iL. The wire snapped off flush with the bigger metal sheath that it goes into. I saw a video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQt9I6siT3s) on soldering the two back together.
First of all, is this a good idea? Second of all, should I open up the larger metal sheath with a metal grinder to get the remaining wire out or can I just solder the wire right back to itself.

Any advice as well as further detail on replacing the selector o-ring (lol) would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    you can get a new one : 16 CABLE NOISE ABSORBING 1 09/1987 09/1991 25161218349 $31.92, only in conjunction with SUPPORT NOISE ABSORBING ZF 1 09/1987 - 09/1991 24511218351 $32.71 https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=25_0051
Soldering mit be possible. Cable housing ends you might get in a motorbike shop. The support noise absorbing is just a rubber piece, you might get a fitting rubber sleeve in a motorbike shop much cheaper.
    O-Ring change, here from a 5HP30, same procedure http://bmwe32.masscom.net/dutch740/s...ectorshaft.htm
Hint: before you install the seal on the selector shaft, mask the selector shaft with masking tape, because often the lip seal is damaged when installing the seal.
