    Spring rates

I'm sure this has been covered more times than you can count but from my search I have been getting mixed reviews. I am looking at getting some fortune auto 500 coilovers and am curious what spring rates you guys run on your dedicated drift cars.

They come standard with 8k/10k but you can upgrade to pretty much whatever you want at no additional cost. I was thinking of running more like 10k/14k. I have seen some people saying that's what they run. I have also seen all the way down to 6k/8k. Which to me sounds way too soft.

Let me know what you guys are running, Thanks!

16k front 18k rear on Broadway static fortune 500's, I'm pretty low and they still do great for drifting and cruising around town

Really depends on what your goals are.

Do you want to run the car really low? = Go higher on rates.
Do you want to have a gripped up fast car? = Run lower rates, well if you have the tire and power to coincide

Personally I run 8/10 on AST 5100 and no sway bars, I like it. 6k/8k sounds like a competition setup to me. I know Chelsea has run as low as 4k rear springs in his e46 (original spring location)

This car is stock motor, I'm just going to be running junk rear tires. I more than likely won't be doing any kind of real power upgrades to this car. I would like the car to be reasonably low as I just enjoy the look. But it's not actually necessary

I'm assuming you're using an E36 or E46. I forget my spring rates. But on my E30 I ran 18k rear springs and 8-10k front.

I'm running 8k/12k bc's and I think im pretty low. If I were to do it again I'd probably go with a 10/14 setup but the car feels good drifting and street driving, sometimes just scrape the cross brace if I'm not paying attention

Physically yes you can swap the springs out, should you is another case entirely, Racelands dont have enough damping for the stock spring rate much less anything stiffer

I run 8k front 7k rear. Actually maybe 7k front 6k rear, but I am hunting all the grip and not low at all. You can call fortune and theyll talk through all the specs and your goals and recommend a rate

I'm pretty sure I'm 7k front/ 8k rear, BC BR's. I'm hunting for grip too, not that I've tried anything else. I don't really have the power to hunt for more grip, either.
Keep it simple: half gutted '01 330i, welded diff, BC coils, SLR Super kit

Any spring matched with a shock outside its efficiency range will eventually kill the shock. The stiffer the spring, the faster the shock will wear out. From a performance standpoint, even before the shock goes, your car will feel like a pogo stick.

As I’ve gone stiffer with damping to control ever increasing spring rates, I’ve really started to notice just how importnant it is to get rid of the rubber bushings in the shock mounts AND eyelets at the bottom. They induce a crazy amount of bounciness to the car over uneven surfaces. I’m also not a believer in “coilovers” for the rear of the car. I use Koni Yellows from a 4th gen camaro and 5” swift springs. Currently at 10k/14k, I may jump to 16k but not sure yet.
