    M62 throttle/idle question

What would cause my idle to go up to higher RPMs while sitting there idling??? What is the proper idling RPM on an m62?

Id say proper idle is 590 rpm and around 150 extra if the AC is on.

Okay so I'm good there but intermittently she jumps up to 1500 and stays there and maybe goes up to like 1700 and comes back down 1500 and stays up in there until I rev her a couple times and she comes back down to "normal...

On my 540i6, I can connect a scan tool and it'll tell me if the engine idle is following commands. If it's uncommanded changes, then there is an issue. I know it's not much help but it's worth looking at.

Mine idles at 500 RPM, and with the A/C on, 600.

There may be a vacuum leak, or a malfunctioning idle control valve.

BMW-speak for ECU. (you should know this by now).

Yeah if there's weird mixture issues it can bump up like that. Also kicks up / down w the AC compressor going on/off.

Check your floor mats....seriously. If you are using non factory mats, or mats without the factory securing tabs, then the mats can slide forward and press against the gas pedal. Check and make sure this is not your problem. The easy check is remove the mats and go for a drive. I had an older Ferrari that was new to me at the time, and the idle would run fast. Tapping or blipping the throttle would drop the revs down....but was annoying. I checked the mats, and sure enough, that was the problem. I fixed it with some Velcro.

^^^^ this. To give a very specific E39 example, I had floormat interference cause weird idle stuff and phantom pedal & throttle body codes (I also separately had real throttle body codes, but it didn't help having the phantoms out there too!)
